{The Proposal – Thoughts from the Bride}

Alex & I have been together for about two years now and have known for a very long time that we wanted to spend our lives together! When we began looking at engagement rings together, we quickly discovered that I just couldn’t find exactly what I was looking for, so we decided to have something custom made. I was a part of the entire design process (we worked with Phillip Samuels of Village Jewelers in Dallas) to create an absolute one-of-a-kind engagement ring that we both loved! Even though I had a hand in the design of the ring, the proposal came as a huge surprise!! I was under the impression (thanks to Alex) that the actual making the ring part would take months (luckily I didn’t think to ask questions or do any research on this supposed timeline on my own)!

Three weeks ago, Alex and I made a trip to my hometown to celebrate my dad’s birthday. While sitting in the living room of my parents home, watching my dad open birthday presents, Alex jumped up (awkwardly) and said: “Uhh so I forgot to tell you, I got your dad a birthday card, but I need to sign it. Will you come look at it?” After I fussed at him for being so weird, he lured me into the family dining room where he handed me an actual birthday card. Annoyed, I opened it up and hand-written note slipped out. Tears filled my eyes and my heart pounded out of my chest as I read his hearts inner thoughts in this letter. I turned to look at him and he got down on one knee, opened the ring box and said “I love you with all my heart and I want to spend my life with you. Will you marry me?” Tears, jumping, gasping … I flailed around until I remembered I actually had to respond! “YES!!!!” We hugged, kissed and my little brother got the whole thing on video!

We opened a bottle of champagne and celebrated with my family before heading to the country club (for what I thought was my dad’s birthday dinner) but was also a surprise engagement party with my three best friends from three different cities. Alex had coordinated the entire thing and I never suspected a thing. He is so good to me. He’s my best friend and I love him with all my heart! (not to mention, he’s ridiculously good-looking!) I am one lucky girl … I couldn’t have planned it better myself.
